i got a 2$ pleco from the lfs ! ID ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
woaahh, i love their body shape. really interested in keeping one. fast moving water? lol is top filter good enough for them ? but what happens if i put them in slow moving water?
I advise getting a powerhead, They could die in slow water(or have a shorter life).
loads of them in our lfs and most of them are juveniles, and all at the same price. planning to add more species of them in my tanks.
If you plan on more then 1 in the same tank introduce them to the tank at the same time. It might cut down on one trying to control the tank.

goshh, shows quiet complicated to keep these fish. and how do i prevent them from getting really territorial? ive seen people stock some plecos in a tank and had no problems with them fighting though or trying to overcome the tank.

Every fish is different. I had three L001's in the same tank back in the 90's and they were very peaceful with everyone. But the one I have right now bullied two common plecos and may have been what killed them. I also heard from others that their L001's are bullies.

Give them lots of hiding places

i currently have two plecos now. one leopard sailfin and one L001, and no agression shown by them. but one thing i notice is tht the leopard sailfin spend most of its time chewing on the driftwood while my L001 spend most of its time under the driftwood lol

that gold spotted sail fin is just a different patterned Common pleco, will live just fine in temps up 82F, can given proper tank size max out at 18" in length, as with most plecos it can and will live in either fast moving water or slow, they can get a little territorial with other plecos, but if there is lots of space and hiding spots will live quite well, I have 3 in my 240 gallon tank living with 12 Common plecos. My largest Gold spot is 9" my smallest is 4", for the best info on these guys check out Plant Catfish, these fish are very common here most LFS sell them right next to the Common pleco, they tend to be slower growers than the common pleco.

well my oldest is 2.5 years and is just reaching 12" so I would say you have at least 1 year or more depending on the fish, and not all will ever reach the 18" length. just keep it till it starting to get to large then sell it for more than you paid, where I live a 2" goes for 6-8 bucks. How big is your tank? any thing bigger than a 55 gallon would be okay for it being the only pleco in the tank, but a larger tank would be more preferable.

well, it is in my 65 with my oscar in it and another sailfin pleco. im overstocked, i know. hahah but im sure i will not keep it too long.
