I Got A RTCxTSN Catfish!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1 this is a good idea!
I had a bit of a dim moment lol. I somehow didn't realised that the tank I'm building is 1123g. Maybe I should get a hybrid to and we can document and compare results. Should get a bit more info out there's

@TBTB
Don't worry, I know. I respect your statements and opinions. I love this forum for that exact reason as debates such as this, usually come up with a answer and help further everyone's knowledge. To answer your question, at only 16, I can't preach about having all the knowledge in the world.

That being said, I've assisted with builds and enclosures private and public builds will occur soon hopefully. I've never had a tank big enough to house them myself but I've had exposure to all three species on almost a daily basis due to my workings with monster keepers. I agree with your ID on that pic. It doesn't look like a hybrid and is most certainly not 5+ maybe 5 on a push.

My 7ft statement was in relation to the hybrid. I think, at least at the moment, I've mainly seen people house them in appropriate tanks for a while and then the person usually dissappears hence our lack of physical proof on the max sizes. Hopefully, my friend will join the forum and he can help document it.

I can't divulge how or why, simply because im not allowed too but I will soon be coming into hand with some large specimens of this hybrid, supposedly 3'+. If everything works out. I'll have one till it hits 4ft and then it'll go into a 2000g tank at a private location. I'd love to give more info but I can't just yet.

To FF,
I hope you don't take this as me flaming or anything like that because that isn't my motive in the slightest. I genuinely hope everything works out well. Heck, maybe you'll help indicate to which side the max size is more accurate! I'd love to see more pics!

Oh and one more thing, @TBTB,
You were one of the first members who's threads I started following on this site so to have this convo with you is pretty badass haha. If you have any pics of the 4' individuals you saw, I'd love to see them

Agreed, xApostle :) except you are too kind. I'm just a lowly hobbyist trying to go professional and I am ignorant. As for the large hybrids - you hit the nail on the head. Extremely few are raised to adulthood and most usually by prominent MFK-ers. I don't have the pics. Those people can be trusted on their word, most usually.

Mine biggest one was 3' and, yes, as per your statement, I only see it in my dreams now. When I have my exhibits up and stock them, then I'll have more to add, hopefully, from personal experience.

TlkmDM has kept a hybrid in his 23,000 gallon pool for 6-7 years and it is nearly 5 feet... He has TONS of videos on it. Youtube the channel "MyAquaticDiary".

Thanks. I saw many of his vids and it still feels like I only pierced the skin of this fruit. He has so much. In none of the videos have I come across a reliable measurement of any of his fish. In the vid you are referring to, was it properly measured and documented or was it just talking behind the camera and waving hands?

He is a great fish keeper, don't get me wrong. Mucho respect to him. But talk is cheap and is no evidence.

While he has never measured the catfish, he has measured several of his 40"+ fish, so compating their sizes should be easy for him.

Thanks, Ben. Excellent. So he measures some fish.

No disrespect to you and TL. I don't go by shoulda, coulda, woulda, I believe, I think, it must be, etc. when it comes to data.

full support to you bro, JUST DO IT. HAHAHAHA, anyway, if ur tsn can hit 2-3 ft at the 1st two years count not bad already, haha, dont be too greedy. they can grow 7ft if house proper, thats for sure.

Just spent a couple hours watching more of his vids. Great work and wonderful disposition. He does measure a bunch of his fish but never the cats, not RTC (of which the biggest he states is 46", just like Arapaimag's biggest), neither the RTCxTSN, nor TSN, nor paroon, etc.

Wish he would. Would really help if we had more info on this specie. Once I've got my tank up, I will be getting a hybrid (1123g) which should give more data to the hobby and maybe, we can get more information on the hybrid out there
