I got into trouble...VENUSTUS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep my venustus with 3 jags, a braz. and a jd...its the king of the tank agressive li'l bastard..I used to have it in my bichir tank harrassed the hell out of my bichirs:( , I put it in my brak, punked my puffer and goby. so i had to stuff it in my SA/CA tank thinking my jags would put it in its place:grinno: dang bugger owns the tank..:grinyes:

Ouch! I'll keep wary...but there's wierd behaviour between keyhole and venustus, they go around together, you can't separate them. It's like a married couple, but if thats the case, there will be arguments, and big ones if MFs are involved :grinyes:
Thanks for the info

Okay heres a tank pic. You can see the Keyhole and the Venustus going round together here. I still need to get the cichlid substrate sorted (soon, payday tomorrow) but other than that, any suggestions?
Also, male or female? I'm guessing male from the blue head colour.

Remeber a fish will grow to a size based on the size of the water it is in and the amount of food available to it. There is nothing wrong with your tank. Limit the amount of food you feed. Venestus aren't too aggressive with other fish.

thats not true with tank size, amount of food yes but you cant keep a baby needle nose gar in a 10 gallon and not expect it to not grow a foot long its impossible.

Without getting into an argument about that, can I just ask something else? I noticed my Keyhole was gone, so I started looking on the floor expecting it to be dried up, well when I looked back in the tank, it was there, but there's some fin damage and stuff. The Venustus seems to drive him into the rocks everytime he gets out. So, do you think introducing some tiger barbs, like the ones the keyhole was used to living with at the lfs, would stop the venustus picking on him, or is this a bad idea?

your keyholes dont stand a chance. That venustus will own them. They get around 10" thats not a small fish. The only thing i can see posing any problems would be a mating pair of convicts. They are brutal. But if the Venustus is large..he will own them too.
