So I went to a lfs today to buy some silversides and other frozen food. And I see some Midas cichlds. And had to get one. Well one turned into four I got four Midas for 4.45. But to my question. I got the Midas and a firemouth and was wondering if they will work together. And also how do I sex the Midas.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! no offense but a firemouth is a calm cichlid, a midas or red devil, is called a devil for a reason!!! not to seem rude but you should kiss mister firemouth bye bye. and i hope ya got a huge tank. each midas will claim about 50 gallons all to himself. hope this helps. hey and if it makes you feel any better i bought 3 balla sharks cause i got a good deal on them and threw them in a 30 gallon. they only lived 5 out of the normal 17 years. we all do an impulse buy or two eventually.

No sure way to sex them except venting or seeing them spawn.Unless You have a really large tank You will end up with one midas or possibly a pair. The rest will be wiped out by the most dominent.

I have the Midas and firemout seperated. And I have been looking at Midas for a while I only wanted one but the lady caught all four. And charged me for one more impulse on her than me lol. But I only plan on keeping two Midas and the other two will be going to a freind who has a spare tank he is setting up for them.

Naw I got that covered if he don't want em I got a 500 gal pool I can set up in my basement if needed lol. Wuld these work with an Oscar or no on that to.

I'd wait and see if a pair forms, if so, keep them and move the rest. These are some crazy fish that will go nuts when you do water changes. As they get bigger, you're going to want to either get some egg crate to divide the tank or get some rubber gloves to prevent them from tearing your hands up while they're in the tank. Generally, the things I've heard of these fish is they're pretty intolerant of any tank mates. Sometimes even a male turns on his mate too.

Firemouth would work with an Oscar. Midas would not work with either.
Midas are a single pet or pair only.
Nice you got four, can let them grow out, pick the best one or pair and return the others to your LFS. For that price I assume they are still smaller.
Have you ever owned a Midas?
If your tank is big enough you can easily keep them with tankmates. My Midas (and every other Amphilophus I've owned) almost completely ignores smaller fish then him, sometimes they chase them around, but that's it. They just beat the crap out of fish that are almost the same size as them or fish that are bigger.
Now in a 55 or 75 gallon yes you may have a problem keeping a Midas with tankmates, big or small doesn't matter, they just want the space.
So to answer the question of the OP: What size is your tank?
