Have you ever owned a Midas?
If your tank is big enough you can easily keep them with tankmates. My Midas (and every other Amphilophus I've owned) almost completely ignores smaller fish then him, sometimes they chase them around, but that's it. They just beat the crap out of fish that are almost the same size as them or fish that are bigger.
Now in a 55 or 75 gallon yes you may have a problem keeping a Midas with tankmates, big or small doesn't matter, they just want the space.
So to answer the question of the OP: What size is your tank?

I totally agree...all depends on tank size. In the right size tank you could do midas and firemouth together but it would have to be a very large tank setup correctly.

Well I have an option to buy a 180 or a 135 but it will be a while right now they are in a 55. Or the pool but I'm kind of saving the pool for my chanel cat pbass and marbled pim. So they are out of luck for 500 gal. How large shuld I go if I want to keep all four. And does anybody have a link for info on the Midas google keeps tosing out wikipedia. And that info is junk.

get i nice 250 gal and keep a pair of midas, then you should be able to det up a great community with other smaller fishies like cons...etc, i even keep a jag with my devil and its fine

Cool thanks for the link.

Will a 180 work cause I seem to have a very hard time finding anything that large.

Yep, a 180 would work great and thats a nice footprint (6x2). What youll find is that you will more than likely have to start weeding out the aggressors or the passive ones as time goes on, depending on if youd like a community type midas (it can happen) or a brute/pair.

That 180 will look so small once the Midas's get big. There an LFS near me with a store mascot Midas named "Zorro" and he makes the (175g?) bowfront he's in look like a fishbowl.

I will probly be keeping a pair if I can and mabe a few other cichlids with them if they alow it.

A pair in a 180 would be very nice, and that will definately help with aggression. Without a pair I think it will work, I haven't kept a pair of Midas, only single males, so I can't give advise about that.
But I think that even in a 180 things can get ugly when they are breeding.

Noted I will just have to keep an eye in them when that time comes. I wuld much rather get bit than Lose a fish to me being dumb. So like I said when the time comes I will be on top of things I hope.
