ya but convicts are quite expensive..... and i dont know how to sex them either..... also how big do convicts get?

they're not expensive, they get around 6", they're easy to sex, the orange/green spangled ones are the females, the big one is the male. They pair up at the drop of a hat. I've even walked by a tank at the big box store and seen a pair guarding a clutch of eggs and bought them both for about $6 bucks. My piranha ate them before i could get them to breed, but still.

I though they max out at 4", too my old big male forever to get to 3" and that's power feeding plus in a 180g.
I would divide a small area for the convicts so that they get use to the new place and finds a cave as new home, then they'll be set with piranhas.

well i would definitely put in the cons first..... because i know in the open convicts will get ripped to pieces.... iv seen it done.... and ill keep some flower pots? heard thats best for convicts and definitely sand.... ill add the p's about a week later

I think the only archocentrus species that maxes out at 4" is nanoluteus aka "yellow dwarf convict." The aquarium strain, and most of the wild strains all get around 6" for the biggest males. My A. centrarchus is about 5" and he's about a year old. Some cons even get a nuchal hump on their heads like a FH.

I could be wrong on the max size of con, but I didn't get to keep it for over a year. they are just regular ones from petsmart and one of its head does get a hump.

well I've personally seen them bigger than 4", and I've got a couple of sources which indicate otherwise:

I guess the only way to find out is to keep one for 10 years and see how big it gets.

my blue diamond likes to play hide and seek (or you can call it search and destroy)with the one and only female convict I have in its tank. thinking if I should add a male...
