How large is your jd (abbreviation for jack dempsey)? I doubt he would bother harming kuhli loachs...

will my dempsey eat or attack a kuhli loach

it might but even if it doesnt chances are you will never see khuli's anyway. its all dependant on size though, if your JD is quite a bit larger it may try but like any cichlid you only know by trying it. for example im keeping my 9" midas with 3" juvenile angels and tetras atm.

i would probably go with 6-8 buenos aires tetras and 4 brochis splendins (if you like bronze cories but need them too big to be eaten) or 2-4 hoplo armoured catfish just to liven up the bottom.

this is based on it being a 36" long 30g breeder. any shorter than 36" i would do a couple of young hoplo cats.

jewels are pretty vicious (at least mine are anyway and they're in a 75)....putting them in that small a tank with a JD is asking for trouble

well id keep a Jd alone My JD ate

a fire mouth when they were still young
a pleco cause I forgot to feed him
a 6 inch peacock eel cause he wanted more food

I have him in a 37 gallon and hes even drawn a little blood

keep him alone im trying to find someone to adopt mine cause he is 6.25 inches with out the tail and he is stuffy in his 37 alone.

In a 75 a good combination is a JD and a GT neither is overly agressive as compaired to some of the heavy hiters. Use sight breaks some fish to draw attention from each other and you'll have a nice tank. I've been using mollies and as live bearers they produce a steady suppluy of feeder fry.

In a 30 you're stuck with the JD solo.
