I had to get them...

Looks like a great set-up you have for your drip. And not to complicated etheir. ----thanks for the info. --------------------channa, i beleive he has the fresh water dripping into the tank where it can mix and dilute pollutants. And a overflow drain on the side of the sump so as the drip system adds water the draim can drain the excess away. The sump also has the normal return pump to the tank for the filtration system. These are less effcient than a large water change at lowering the nitrate build up. But they keep a steady lower nitrate level in the tank and keep the parameters steady. And they are automated = less work.

exactly, and very well said!!!

i guess u could call it less efficient because it actually dilutes the water rather then replacing it.

but a drip is a must have with large rays. can u imagine doing a 50% waterchange on a 450 gallon every day?

You know.... This thread has inspired me. I live in a rental house and honestly I don't give a shibby anymore.... I'm putting the friggin carbon filters in and that's all there is to it.

I don't have a 450, but I do have a 1K pond and a 300 gallon growout with rays in them, and honestly it's nothing shy of brutal having to do 30% (Pond) and 50% (300) waterchanges every other day. I allready get stuck doing 2 part waterchanges on the pond. (empty hot water heater then finish WC when it gets replenished)

Talk about slavery....... Well I'm abolishing it with Carbon filters. Tired of this crap.

Trev..... Anything you'd do different if you were to set up carbon filters again? Sediment filter before the carbon?

the only thing i need to do is make up some sort of drip tray. in the winter the ice cold water makes the filters and pipes sweat alot. deff insulate all ur pipes too. once the ground warms up a little, its all good.

it will also help ur tanks stay more consistent. u will deff kick urself for not doing it sooner...

you guys lucky to have a drip system.
ive got no drains going to my tank plus itd cost me a bomb.
plus im a student...dont wanna buy expensive rays to have em die on me.

rays are actually very hardy when healthy. my rays are tougher then my armatus 4 sure...

the lucky part is- my condo complex pays my water bill:ROFL:

Talking about messy rays, my rays turn the tank into a total mess when they poop and then swim over it. Lucky I use hydroponics!
