hah! im so happy and excited! i successfully trained my 20+inch silver aro to be handfed by me!!!
1st step: i use frozen feeder goldfish and drop them at a certain place.
2nd step: i hold down the feeders from my hand holding it while hiding my hand at the top cover where i ussually drop down the feeders.
3rd step: i finally dared to put my hands with the feeder even im kind of scared my finger will get bitten, but oh well... i did it! and to my surprise he took it rather gently from my hands.. unlike when hes attacking the feeders inside the tank with such ferocity.

anyway... just wanted to share my joy! :P
trully, taking care of ur arowana is really rewarding! this is just a bonus for me! :headbang2

careful with your handfeedings...

it might make water changes and tank work difficult in the futre if your aro associates your hand with food. just something to think about...

thanks bud! but as for now, i took the risk of it for the happiness and fulfillment in exchange! :)

anyhow, b4 i did it i made a lil researched on how strong an aro can bite and injure... so far i didnt encounter a fatality or a lost finger... so i gave it a go!

in the end... it was so rewarding!!! w00t w00t!

i did this with my aro...

he bit me a couple of times but let go as soon as he realized it was me. didnt really hurt, more surprised if anything.

Me too, he looked embarrased by the mistake :D

he probably thought your finger was a worm! LOL

I used to hand feed my 24" and 22" silvers all the time. Never had any trouble cleaning the tank at all. In fact I never worried about it either. Most the time I did this I would get bit sometimes more sometimes less. I was never worried about it as they really don't hurt. There was only one time it actually did draw blood. And thats only because he sort of scratched me a little with his teeth as he was pulling away with a feeder. Even then, it was so minor, that it didn't even hurt. Just a tiny tiny scratch. Silvers are very easy to teach to take from your hand. I really don't think they try to be carefull, but on the other hand at 24" they aren't really capable of hurting you anyway. I had my new silvers for a couple weeks (8") and had them taking krill from my hand the first time I put it in there. They knew what was going on, because the first time they would take, they would splash water on my dashing away with thier reward. The second or third time they would just come and take the food and slowely swim away

Nice. I just Hand fed My buddies Aro.. I was fish sitting... The last fish i was holding .... The aro left the tail fins in my fingers :) Chopped them right off at the beginning of my Fingers :D... My wife tough it kinda gross..

Didn't matter where i put the fish though.. He came where ever i wanted him to and chomped his dinner :)
