Hi guys, well i am back for advice. so i now have green water due to my tank being so near the window (i will get a uv soon).i have a sump and a fluval 304 as filtration for my 55 gallon. On the sump i have a 100 micron pad, isn't it enough to catch all free floating algae? How many microns do i need to stop it?

Pads are not going to help.Get the tank away from the window,or cover the window up.

I can't, no more space for the tank. Thats why i am getting a uv. Any immediate treatments?

I did read some where that one way to clear green water (although i don;t know how effective it is, since i never tried it) is to feed your fish a reasonably big meal, then cover the WHOLE TANK up so no light gets in for about a week...

Then at the end of the week, due to no light getting into the tank, the green water should be gone... although you will need a big water change at the end...

Another method i've heard of is to do about 25% water changes a day for a full week or until the green water is gone.. which ever comes first...

But as i mentioned before, i've never personally tried the first method, and as for the 2nd method, i guess it works if you only have light green water, in which case, normally a big water change sorts it out any way... or maybe thats cause i have a UV filter so it doesn't build up as quick!?

UV is the way to go to stop green water. There is a member here that keep a pacu tank near the window and UV was the fix to their green water problem. Don't be cheap and spend the money on a good quality UV.

UV all the way. :D If you just want to stop greenwater and dont need the full on sterilizing affect that higher wattage and increased exposure UV's give. The 9 watt green machine might be the one for you. No plumbing just plug and play.
If you want a high quality unit that will help with parasites etc go for the turbo twist. IME it works quite well.

Didn't I talk you into a UV? Now you cannot live without one in this hobby.:D I spend too much money on fish to take a risk w/o a UV.
