i hate fiberglass resin

i found fiberglass resin to be very messy product did not adhese to paint i got the orange peel that i had to repair in the long run wouldnt be cheaper than epoxy because more of it would be requird i wish i never messed with this stuff but it was all i could afford and was easily availible if the the fiberglass got stuck to anything it stayed sticky stuck to my hands and stayed with me for days i havnt touched any in several days and can still smell it on me
 
I know you didn't read the instructions. Watching someone else does not qualify.

You can get it off using dry laundry detergent and the smallest amount of water. Rub it in really good and then add slightly more water until it is a paste. Keep rubbing it in untill all of the resin is off.
 
wouldnt a detergent wreck any undercoats of sealer i have on.what i had in mind and have already partially done was sand out the small bubbles and places that peeled was not real severe this is also not a place that holds water.There is no fiberglass resin on the inside of my tank it is only on the front face.I painted over it again to hide blemishes then i was going to coat over with an epoxy and then paint over the epoxy again.I am not interested stripping anything off.The first coat was an expensive epoxy but what i dont know is will the epoxy adhese to the paint i think it will but i dont want to make the same mistake twice.Or should i just strip down the whole front face and start over this is the only part of the tank that wil be visible so looks are important.I also no that detergents are one of the worst things you could put on wood i have a fair amount of carpentry expierience and some maintenence background.This is the first time i have built something that is not a rough finish has to hold a large amount of water non toxic etc.
 
To every problem theire is a soulution.It is a matter of figuring out the most appropriate manner of solving a delema.

hi, replying I am not bigbaddad I am his gf. I do the laundry in the house and that does not work. I know because we have 2 kids and you can imagine what they get on their clothes.
 
No, it does work. You just have to follow the directions. It isn't going to dissolve the resin, it only will surround it so that you can get it off your skin without sticking back on some where else. Tossing clothing into the laundry isn't going to remove the resin. That is a no brainer. The only way laundry detergent is going to help is when it is on your skin and the detergent is in the form of a paste.



And who in their right mind would let their kids get that close to fiberglass resin? :screwy: The stuff isn't play-doh, and it isn't a toy. There are some adult things that sould just be obvious that they aren't compatible with children.

You may want to read that again, no where in there does it say that the children play with the resin. You probably do not know what kind of things kids get on their clothes. You know that using laundry detergent on your bare skin as a paste does not work on all people. You need to think that over because not all people can do that. As far as laundry goes, Well when you get fiberglass resin on your clothes. It will never come out even with pasty laundry detergent. Question how many children have you had to do laundry for lately?*bbd's GF*

I just was reading all your replies to big bad dad and you have been pretty rude to him. It seems that you are pretty much the only one on here that has a problem with his grammer. I know it is a pain but it is not a good reason to bother some one. Any how I just hope that you will start to read every thing before assuming stuff. Have a good night!:)
 
If there has been catalyst added to the resin - there is NO way it is coming off of your clothes, unless you wait till it hardens and then cut it off -lol-

I think Chomper is trying to say the detergent is used to get resin off your hands by rubbing it in your hands together - the resin will stick to the detergent powder, and group into small balls which fall on the floor, and then do not stick to anything, as they have the coat of detergent on them =) You could really just use sand/dirt or something to acheive the same results =)

Thinners is best to get rid of sticky fibreglass resin if possible to use it - i know as i used to use it to wash my hands with hehehe - be careful if you have sensitive skin, as it may give you a rash... i had zero problems with it tho...

But yes - the resin is very sticky stuff! I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do here, but the only way to keep it clean is if you use masking tape over the sections you DONT want the resin on, such as porous matertials like wood (will stain it) etc - any non porous surfaces like glass or something, it will come straight off with thinners - don't let it sit for too long tho - the longer it's there - the harder it is to get off =)
