I absolutely hate starting the python and vacuuming the crap off the floor. I plan on getting a 220G (72x30x24) and the mere thought of vacuuming a 220G gives me headaches. Is there a way to make all the poop sucked up in the filters?

I plan to run a 55G sump + Eheim 221 + FX5 (for water changes) on this tank.

Is there a way to position power heads/ whatever so all the poop ends up in one spot (preferably the filter intakes) ?

The tank will be a heavily stocked mbuna tank. Tons of rock work

Yeah you could arrange the jets, but you will always have muck settle under the rocks so eventually you will have to move the rocks and still syphon some. Plus the syphoning helps to keep the gas bubbles from building in your substrate.

Well my mbunas like to sift through the sand so that is not a problem.

I'm hoping to keep the siphoning to a minimum. Once a year is what I am aiming for. I'll be looking at 400+ lbs of limestone to remove on a 30" tank, not something I want to do on a monthly basis.

You could go bare bottom maybe paint the bottom black or whatever color then aim the jets, power heads so all the poop ends up in one spot during w/c its just a quick vac in that one spot weekly but you still gotta make sure its not accumilating anywere else.

In my 180gal I have a quiet one 6000 (1500gph) for my current. I have 2 outlet jets, one points straight, one goes slightly higher. Never done a vacuum on this tank since I set it up 6 months ago.

No way is a bare bottom tank a possibility.

Your idea sounds great! How much decor do you have in your tank?

I think I might set up the tank like a reef tank, b/c both tanks have a great amount of rockwork and you don't take out the rocks regularly.

thats how my 125 is set up.

but if you plan on having alot of decor, plan on having just as many jets to blow in, around, and behind to move the muck around.
