Don't be a puss... CLEAN THE BASEMENT. I cleaned out my garage so I could put some of my tanks in there. I had been putting it off for 5 years but my fish needed it so I did it.
Took me 3 weeks 2 or 3 hours a day durring the week and all day on sat. I hauled 15,000 pounds of short steel,4 dump truck loads of junk, tore out 6 sets of shelves, had to pressure wash the floor to get the grease up and then had to insulate and build a fish room.
My garage is 24'x14' so you know how packed in it was. I rebuilt tranmissions out of the garage for 10 years so I had a LOT of s**t in it.
I'm with the guys who say heat the whole room. That way, you won't freeze your buns off when you watch your fish.
I'd say at least 3-300 watt heaters for a 180 gallon. I have one 300 watt on our 100 gallon and I really need to add another as it is almost always going on and off (room temp is about 70-72 degrees).
Life smacked me in the face this morning. THe harsh realization that I need a car in November kinda ruins things. Looks like teh 180g and 90g are going to have to be put on hold. For the time being, I'm going to get a 125g discus/tigrinus tank and put it in my living room. I'm still going to clean out the basement tho. The bar is too good to leave alone.
I say put the 180g were that safe and bear are and do what u said. Get rid Of that very top shelf in the closet and get a bigger TV and put it were that other 1 is and set up a tank under neath it so u can watch it on the commercials
