Heres why:
1. No matter if its just 10 3mm pellets or a couple handfuls of 3 mm pellets the NLS fish food clogs my mechanical micron filter pads and turns them brownish orange.

2. NLS leaves a smell of rotten fish in my syhstem, not garlic if it where a garlic smell I would welcome it.

3. Even if my fish eat all of the pellets there is still the horrible smell and clogging problem

4. The NLS pellets seem to dissolve in water , so as my fish gulp down the pellets an nls orange brown cloud comes out of there gills and mouths.

IS there anything as nutrionally balanced or better than NLS, that doesn't have these problems and is still affordable?

Do they add a dye to their food? I can't tell if the ingredient list lists a dye or not.

Also, hosing down the micron pads in the reverse direction the tank water came in with a power nosle on a hose, bleaching them, and then soaking them in fresh water , then soaking them in freshwater with dechlorinator. Still leaves the NLS stains behind.

That's odd.. maybe you got a bad bunch?

I feed all my tanks NLS and I have never had these issues.

i havent had NLS probs either.only ones for myself i see disolve in the water is massivore and carnivore sticks but never enough to build up.a bad batch is my only guess as well.

I feed the 1mm nls cichlid pellets to my fish and it leaves tons of particles in the tank, but my fish love it. They go nuts for it compared to the omega one/hikari food I was feeding them previously.

I find all Hikari products do this... ugh. :irked:

I can some what relate to the OP's problems... my fahaka is a messy eater and she almost always crushes the pellets leaving a dusty trail behind...

Also, when she doesn't completely digest the NLS she basically farts the stuff out as an orange cloud which some times coats a small are of the substrate...

As for the filter, yes it definitely loves getting picked up by filter media... all you can do i guess is rinse it slightly more often than you otherwise would?

Wow, then that is just my luck. My fish love it and usually eat all of it. but like above I see an nls cloud come out of their mouths and gills when they eat it.

All I know right now is that it is turning my wallet into ash, because after paying $50 for a few lbs and then paying for bleach and the filter pads to get the orange brown color out of my filter pads and replace the filterpads that bleach no longer helps.
