I hate New LIFe Spectrum(NLS) FIsh food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never been able to get p-bass or rays to eat NLS. I think it is too hard for them.

I make my own food now which does contain some NLS among a bunch of other things

I've seen numerous rays that eat NLS, some grown out on it exclusively. One of the sponsors here on MFK (Shine Aquatics) has his entire group of black rays all eating NLS. His previous rays also ate NLS, almost exclusively, for years, up until he sold them. His gar would also eat the large floating NLS pellets, no problem. I watched an 8" leo cross smash back the 10mm pellets with ease, so there is no doubt in my mind that most rays can be trained to eat some of the less dense pellets, or wafers.

One of the mods here (Chaitika) had his larger p bass eating the 10mm NLS pellets like they were M&M's, but I believe that his aro later killed them.

Experience will vary depending on individual fish, and individual feed types offered in each tank. Typically palatability only becomes a problem with those that feed fresh/frozen as some fish will find those foods more palatable (no matter the overall nutrient content) and will hold out for those foods, and those foods only.

My comparison is based on NLS pellets of several different sizes vrs sinking carnivore, massivore, or sinking cichlid gold.

I have solved the problem I have with the density of the pellets by pulverising them in a blender with other pellets and fresh tilapia and some supplements and then binding them with unflavored gelatin.

So I do feed NLS every day, just not in its original form or alone.

One thing I noticed is if pellets go to the bottom and fish often bury them in the sand, the sand gets brownish spots, this happen soften. Now I just add a few pellets at at time and make sure they eat them right away. After I use up what's left of the pellets I'm no longer going to feed pellets. Fish Flakes are good enough with an occasional frozen/freeze-dried snack.
