So, I have had my Jag for months now and I still havent seen him eat. He is the only fish in the tank who I have never seen eat. Not once!! Today I put a dozen guppies in the tank (that I raised). Everyone in the tank ate them, but the jag. He didnt even look at them. Not sure if he's pissy hes not the top of the tank or what. Seems to be second in command from what I see ... if that matters. Any thoughts?

try different foods if you haven't already. i have a jag that will only eat pellets, while everything else in my tank eats whatever i put in there.
goodluck

Ive tried floating and sinking pellets, frozen blood worms, krill, silversides, beefheart, earth worms, ghost shrimp, and guppies. Wont even look at them. I assume since hes alive, hes eating something. Haha. I guess Im mostly concerned because I want it to grown large and healthy ... like I want for all fish =) I would hate for this to stunt him in the long run.

keep trying. if its healthy it will come around and eventually eat. try dimming lights also during feedings and stand away from tank. maybe it gets spooked at your presence. had a fish that wouldn't eat in front of me once.

Thanks for the info. Ive tried lights on, off, dimmed, standing at the tank, away ... not sure the deal. Its the only fish Ive ever had that does this.

Stop feeding it for three days. Then put in a few pieces of dried krill. The problem with "keep feeding" the fish is that the food will dissolve and eventually foul the water in your tank. That causes bigger problems than a hungry fish. Predatory cichlids can go a long time between meals. I have a couple picky eaters...but none ignore dried krill.

I have not tried dried krill. Thanks. Do you know if there is a direct corelation between how much these large fish eat and their growth rate? I hope this doesnt mean he will be stunted.

Also, what he doesnt eat ... the other fish do after a bit. If they dont, I remove it after fifteen minutes. Also running a drip system and so on.

You say you have had him for months, how many months exactly? I would assume since he is still alive, he is eating. Probably just waiting until you aren't around. How does he look, is he extremely skinny? Post a pic so we can see what kind of shape it is in.

Ill grab my phone and get some to post. I purchased the fish back in January, so I know it has eaten ... I guess I am more concerned it seems to be about the same size as it was when I put it in the tank. Rapps said it was eating floating food like a pig before shipping.

What are the other fish in the tank (and their sizes)?

The Jag might be intimidated by some larger/more aggressive fish.

This has happened to my GT for a couple of weeks when he was the smallest fish in the tank with Oscars and Jag and another GT.

Good luck,
