I have a brackish tank and I don't even know it?

I think festerfish was talking about topping off the water, which doesn't remove salt but just slightly dilutes it.

HELP!!!! i just discovered that the silver scat that i've had for about 9 months is a brackish fish.. he resides in a tank with all african cichlids.the water is 100% fresh... what effects would this have on him longterm?
 
Possible immune system issues. I've seen severe skin diseases in these fish, like columnaris. Shorter lifespans.

I am aware of SW catfish, the point I was making is that the OP has other scale-less fish in there, or is considering to get, which are certainly not particularly salt tolerant.
