A pet shop is selling some of their used setups (terrarium, heat pad, light and thermometer £50 all together) now here's the catch... It would be my first herp setup and it's big enough to house a crested gecko for life, I don't know what I want though between a bearded dragon, leopard gecko, crested gecko or a milk snake/ball python.

I also however have a pet fancy rat (domesticated) and I love her to death, my mum used to keep a burmese and ball python and bred her own live foods (rats) a d said It will cause a sensory overload which causes aggression, so could someone give me an insight on each herps personality, ease of care, interests, bad points and just general stuff like that. Cheers Andy

What size is the terrarium?

Any of the reptiles you listed would be a fine pet. A bearded dragon needs the most room, so be prepared to get a big tank for it. Ball pythons are probably the most handleable, but they can be picky eaters.

I don't know about the sensory overload idea. I find that rats enjoy lots of room and stuff to explore and play with, though they also like a familiar nest to return to. How's ventilation in the terrarium? That would be my major concern with keeping a rat in it.

Does owning a rat make you averse to feeding rodents to your pets? If so, you might want to stick to the lizards.

Oh no i didn't mean that I would keep the rat in it I just meant that the rat may be in the same room it was my mum and dad that seen the viv so don't know what the precise size, is two seconds I'll be back with an estimated measurement. Thanks.

It's approximately 24"ish long 21"ish tall and 14"ish depth.

Also I am very understanding of the natural food chain if anything a snake would encourage me to start a breeding project and might encourage me to also train my waste of space ratting miniature pinscher to actually be trained

You could do a leopard or crested gecko, that is to small for ball python and bearded dragon.

Also which herp is the most interactable as I some day will obtain either an Argentinian black and White tegu or a monitor of some sort

Tegu without a doubt

Keep in mind either will require a very large enclosure.

I dont see myself having a B/W Tegu for a few years so i was gonna start with a gecko then a beardie then maybe if i feel that i could cope with a tegu. but i am also starting to lean towards getting a ball python, and i have a couple spare 20 gals if he outgrows the viv he will be a baby if i get one though.

but for budget wise i see myself either getting a crestie or a bearded. and ill ask again, will keeping a rat in the same room cause the herp to have sensory overload? oh Bump

Get a tegu if you are able to. If I had the space, I would have a b&w and a red tegu.

But if you are using that small setup, you should get a leopard gecko. Very personable and cheap too.
