If you start getting a bunch of babies stick a slice of cucumber in there at night and pull it out in the morning. Most of them should be on it.

Doesn't work for MTS. It is how I got rid of my pond snails but was able to keep the MTS at the same time. :)

Assassin snails are not hermaphroditic so you can keep one to hide the bodies of your trumpet snails. If one isn't enough introduce two more, If they start reproducing they will only lay a single egg every couple of weeks so the population will not grow so fast that you couldn't easily control them manually. Eventually you will reach the equilibrium that you want.

Leave the MTS to just do their thing. I have them in all my tanks and hardly notice them. If I'm bored I'll pick out what snails I can see and toss them to the turtle. Other than that the MTS just kinda find their own balance in the tank.

Oh, and puffers shouldn't be fed MTS. The shells of MTS are too hard for puffers and can damage their mouths.

Yep, I have them and hardy notice they are there. Also I remember I had a well establish 55g tank FULL of MTS and got two clown loaches and after a couple months they had killed every last one.

i have trumpets and they dont get out of hand. also, im not sure i read this thread right but im assuming this is a freshwater tank (it seems like i saw saltwater mentioned but i dont feel like rereading). if it is FW then i suggest this- 1: mts dont actually dig that deep to do any good for the gas pockets as fars as i can tell... which leads me to 2: if the other tank mates are nonagressive enough, go get a couple of banjo catfish to stir up the sand. i have one and it does a great job. due to their nocturnal behavior they remain buried all day long. and they kick up a lot of sand in the process when covering themselves. so thats my advice. hope you come up with something.
