I have a tank full of water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think he should go with a betta. I have one in a 5 gallon. It sits right next to my computer so he can make fun of all the Monster Fish.

Bettas have great big personalities, are easy to care for, come in lots of nice colors. And most of them arer pretty cheap. What more could ya want?

Of course, neon tetras are nice too!

pretty fishies! maybe hmm thasts hard guppys? thats what i did until they died from a mysterios disease thingy

Hiya Irish N, welcome to MFK.
Expect to get some ribbing about the 5G tank. Most 5g tanks are only 8" by 16" by 9" tall so not many fish that can be considered monstrous would fit.
I can think of one that would work as a center piece with maybe a cory cat, and a vampire shrimp. these are slow moving ambush predators that usually eat small fish but will also eat insects, worms, and small shrimp. Although they only get a little more than 3" long thet can easily eat 2" long fish.
They are the South American Leaffish, (Monocirrhus polycanthus), this picture is by Moeremans.

neon tetras or maybe a Ram but then again you could only have one of them.... Bettas are okay but I find them annoying b/c you have to change the water more often..( then again I am lazy!!) ne who Welcome to MFK!!! =)

Welcome Newbie:D

my 5 gal salt hasnt been ripped either

thanks, I think I will go down the baby monsters road,

Or the south american leaf fish sounds interesting. I wonder how easy they are to come by.

I don't know over there, the African might be easier to find, it is a little plainer and about a 1/2" larger. Another fish you might like that is a mini-monster is one I have not kept but wish I could, they are fairly available in the UK and easier to feed non living food too. That is the Assan Blue or the Rainbow snakehead (Channa bleheri), It is listed as maxing out at 8" or 20cm. One would fit for a while, especially if you got it while small. here is a picture from the german site ciklid.se
