ok i said my thing wrong, i want it to look NICE, and yet it is still easy to maintain.

but how would i make the artificial stuff?

Thats sort of like trying to make Corvette get 30mpg...the more "realistic" your vivarium gets, the more difficult its going to be to keep clean.

Are you totally set on using that 55?

Using plastic display caging will solve the issue of retaining heat and humidity, and you can decorate the inside whichever way you please.

Ok ive made up my mind, i will just use aspen(better wood bedding??) and maybe add a vine or two, and about 3-5 hides. it will be set on its side also.
OK so here

55 Gallon On its side
Aspen Substrate
5 hides
Branch/vine or 2

what is the most efficient cheapest way to heat this.?

Flexwatt Heat Tape

Its not really "tape" but more like very thin plastic sheet with a low-wattage resistor in it, similar to your rear window defogger in your car or truck.

You'll need a quality thermostat to control the tape. Ranco and Johnson Controls make great thermostats that will last forever and keep your temps just right. The link above will even sell you pre-wired flexwatt and pre-wired thermostats so you can just plug and play.

Also, please don't put the baby or juvi ball in a 55...that's way too big...9 out of 10 times you will have major problems getting it to eat consistently.

Ok what size of heat tape, and how much do i need?

Depends on the size of the enclosure, you basically want your "warm" area to be about 1/4-1/3 of the entire length of the cage...so if you have a cage that is 30" long, a one foot section of 11" heat tape will work fine.

put the baby straight into the 55g, if you'rre worried about it getting stressed then just put in more hides. a lot of people will only put in one or maybe two hides at the most and then wonder why their snake is getting stressed, the more decorations and things for the snake to hide under the more secure it will feel.
