ok i moved some to my 10g but i don't have a sponge filter can i use a bubbler or something like that. also what and when will they eat i have nothing this small for food i got krill but thats the smallest food i got

she isn't eating them she taking them off the rock and moving them into the corner of the tank she spits them back out in the corner i'll leave some in the tank i did move about 50 in to the 10g i am using a bubbler stone and a heater i don't have any sponge filters i will have to order one now my problem is feeding

Ok lets see. Its good that she isn't eating them. In that case I would put the fry back in with the mother since she is looking after them and I would go buy some Hikari First Bites or any kind of "baby" fish food. Fresh hatched brine shrimp are probably the best if you can find/hatch any. Otherwise they won't really be able to eat anything else, especially krill. Most large cichlids have a hard time digesting krill. Once you get the fish food you should be good for some time. If the female isn't eating them now she most likely won't ever. I would still try to remove the male as I have had problems with them in the past, however all fish are different. After all they both might care for the fish. Other than that I would try to find a sponge filter since they rock anyways. Not sure what else I can say to help, but good luck and hope the fry turn out good. OH YEAH, post some pics of the parents. They are both FH aren't they?

yeah there both fh i have frozen brine shrimp that's what i meant i saw a betta pellet that was small i think food is gonna be my biggest problem all my fish are big so i have nothing small and i just have a petsmart around here so i'm limited

Petsmart should be fine. There should be a couple kinds of food they carry. I know one is called First Bites. Not sure about where you are but the petsmarts around the Minneapolis/St.Paul area all sell that ****. Just look through the food section or ask one of the idiots who work there. I think frozen brine would be too big anyway. I think the brine shrimp is probably bigger than the fry lol. That first bites is the only thing I have seen small enough, it's pretty much a powder. The other thing you might be able to get away with is taking a regular pellet food (not krill) and grinding it into a powder and just sprinkling it in the tank. Maybe about 1/32 teaspoonful. I don't know what else I can say to help, I'm surprised nobody else has said anything. Meh. Anyway hope you can get these little buggers taken care of.

ok thanks i will look for this first bites at petsmart i hope they sell it she has pushed them all into the corner but is taking care of them so all is good.

i was wondering at what point should i start feeding them should i wait til there swimming right now it's been 3days since hatch and there all in a corner of the tank wiggling but not swimming

Ok I am going through somewhat the same situation. My fish just laid eggs. Anyway you want to wait 4-5 days after hatching since they will feed off their yolk sacks. When they finally lose the yolk sack they will need food. I just bought a brineshrimp hatchery for like $13. You want to try and feed them that for the first week or so then the first bites/crushed pellets/flakes, until they are big enought to eat bloodworms, adult brine, etc. I think you should be covered from there on out. I can only hope my eggs hatch! Wish me luck and good luck rearing your batch!

Actually no need for the brine. Wait til 2-3 days after they hatch and start feeding first bites.
