once they hatch they should bounce around in the rocks for awhile shouldnt they? till thier egg sacks are obsorbed? i never even seen anything bouncing around in the rocks.seems like two of the p's are hanging in the same corner all the time
I would set up a small, well filtered tank and if/when they spawn again, immediately siphon out some (NOT ALL!) of the eggs, and transfer into the smaller, well filtered (sponge filtration is probably best) tank. Then add a significant quantity of methylene blue to stop the eggs from fungusing. After 2 days, REMOVE the MB with a small bubble up filter filter with good carbon. At the same time, start hatching some brine shrimp eggs.
Starting brine that early would be a waste. They won't eat the 1st week till yokes used up & the bellies are clear(no orange). Also eggs & fry develop the best with male fanning in tank they spawned in. I would wait the 2 extra days till the eggs hatch & they wiggle into gravel. Those couple of extra days makes them that much stronger. Waiting till they hatch you won't need methylene blue. Also any waterchanges in fry tank should be with parents water. I prefer a smaller hob filter with sponge over intake tube. The fry thrive with the added current.
its looking like their starting to dance again. so we'll see if i get some more eggs this week.bruner i'll start getting the 20 gal i have set up.when they fall into the gravel will i be able to see them bouncing around? or do they go deep into the gravel?
Depending on tank temp 2nd or 3rd day theyll hatch & fall into gravel. Use a gravel siphoner and gently stab gravel. Point hose end to the side of a bucket. So it'll swirl in whirlpool like effect. You fry will gather in the center bottom, drain off any floating crap in 3/4 of bucket. Fry will continue to be in center. Just watch as you pour. It works like a charm. Any water needs to come from parents tank.
Yep possibly 4 if tanks cooler. Higher the temp the faster they hatch, use sack up,grow ect. I bet 2nd or 3rd day at most though. Watch for spawning or male fanning dead giveaway of the spot.
last time the nests were so big it was had to miss them.bet they were 6-8" accross. there were 2 males and nests in the same area.how about my pleco? pull them out?do you have a write up on this some where?i've aleays had this problem of not being satisfied with just keeping fish i always have to breed and try make money.since there isn't a pet store in town that can keep rbp in stock if i can get this down i might be able to make my hobbie pay for it's self.
