I'm starting to feel like the general quality of aquarium heaters is truly awful. I've had over 6 heaters fail in the last few months, including:
- two Stealths (granted, one was old)
- one Aqueon Pro (used only a WEEK)
- one Visitherm (used only a few months)
- two undergravel mini heaters

On top of that, I went to help my dad with his new tank, and both the Visitherm in the main tank and the Stealth in his quarantine tank didn't work AT ALL. Both were brand new heaters.

What is the deal! Should I try the in-line heaters this time on my 29g and 40g tanks?? Or buy Eheim Jagers? I don't know what else to try that will be more reliable. Argh...

the jagers are great heaters, also the fluval e-serries are really good a lil pricey but the glass heater comes in a plastic casing so is well protected from large cichlids and i've heard great things about the hydor inline heaters that work with a canister filter.

Its time to bring out the Jagers!

Hydor ETH in-line heaters work great plus since they're in-line your tank will look less cluttered.

Okay thanks guys. I was going to get a Fluval E for my turtle since it has a built-in guard, but now that I have Eheim canisters on both of my tanks, I think I'll go with the ETH in-line heaters.

Hope this new heater works for you. I'll be pissed if that many heater failed on me!

I've only ever used Visi-Therm heaters (not the stealth ones, the original) and I've only ever had one fail on me, and that was my fault. I keep heaters in my sump and accidentally dried them out without turning them off. When I went and added clean water, one of them shattered.

Other then that, I've had a total of 11 of the heaters, for a good 4 years now, and only that one ever failed.

My next heater IS going to be either a Jager, or a titanium heater, but that's because I plan on building a DIY external heater enclosure, and those two are the ones that fit best inside them.

Otherwise I would buy a Hydor ETH to go with my Eheim 2217 I just bought as well. The problem I was seeing is that the Eheim output line is 1/2", whereas the 300W Hydor only fits 5/8" line.
