I have really screwed up my 75 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, salvage the salt in some containers, and then fill the tank up with water and vinegar. Im serious when I say that vinegar works wonders. And its relatively reef safe.

i scraped off a little section again to see if it would come back. If it does, I will have to soak the tank with vinegar and water.

Oxi-clean. I just used it to remove this same type of film off of a 150G that I'm moving my oscars into. I only had the film on the front top half of the tank so I actually just mixed about 5 gallons of warm water with some oxy-clean then used a scrubbie and went of the glass with it for about 10 minutes. gave it a really good rinse and let it dry. The film hasn't come back at all.

And it does say Aquarium Safe on the Oxy-clean package. On a side note. All oxyclean is is a powdered form of hydrogen peroxide. i suppose pouring a little peroxide over a scrubbie and rubbing the tank down might work too?

Excellent, thank you for confirming that. I may go that route if this second scraping fails.

I also dont know if I mentioned that just a hand full of days ago this was a running freshwater tank that was clear as can be.

The guy I got the 150 from claims he drained it about 4 hours before I picked it up. The River rock he put in a garbage bag was still wet and water drained out of the Eheim Pro II. But by the time I got home from picking it up (2 hours) the glass had hazed over. I came on here and asked and someone suggested oxy clean. I had already tried vinegar with no luck, as well as a razor. So I figured WTH, Worse case scenario I flush the tank a few times and leave prime in it. But then I seen the oxy Clean label and was stoked.

PS: Check out the first paragraph.

How long did you run the tank for with the salt water? Did you let the tank dry out well after all the freshwater was drained?

I drained the freshwater tank and refilled it immediately.

Strange, Maybe it's some type of chemical reaction to something that was on the glass or in the tank when it was used as a freshwater.. I would think if you drained it and gave it a scrub down and let it dry out it should be good to go after thta, just make sure your scrub for a while..

well the section that I scraped again looks like its coming back slowly. 24 hours and I will have a definite idea. Will try the vinegar based on the next 24 hours.

I am really thinking about scrapping this tank.
