If you ARE willing to spend whatever - sit back, and hire somebody to do this for you - Pay extra for a heated box truck, etc etc... I think that would be the least worry, and stress to you, especially if you have your family to think about, too.

Thanks but I am willing to use the knowledge of the people here and not waste money. If it was my full on reef tank that I lost in Wilma (1.5 weeks no power and ran out of propane for generator....long story) I would but I believe with the knowledge of you and others. Why pay some one to do the same thing I can do with some advice... Mostly worried about kill temps and perimeters any advice is gladly taken

Thanks :):):)

Temps are rough when using an UHaul as the back is not heated. I mean, how cold CAN live rock get?
As for the fish in the car - be careful, too. Depending on what kind of car you have, the back can get pretty chilly too, even when it's warm up front. I have had to use those plug-in accessory heaters for the area closest to the back of the vehicle. You may want to get one just in case. Styro boxes also help with buffering temps.

okay so if I get a 50 gallon garbage can and cover wrap it with insulation (used on water heaters ) and a heater with thermostat and a 30 watt air pump what about that scenario for the rock and sand. The same with fish in 30 gal behind passenger seat in car with fish ????? may be two 50s

Pick up a pallette tank and what ever you do don't forget how much weight...not to mention inertia this is going to place on your vehicle. You can run battery powered air pumps driving a few established hydro 5 sponge filters for the trip. Just stop occasionally and change the batteries in the pumps. They should run for 3 or 4 hours or so each set reliably...possibly longer but I've never pushed them that far. The pallette tanks are MUCH stronger and easer to move that rubbermaid tubs. You can pick them up in two sizes on Ebay. I can provide a link if you'd like. Tight sealing tops are available for them for a few bucks more that you can cut holes in and fill with foam...allowing gas exchange without water sloshing out on turns or bumps. Insulating this type of transport is as simple as taping foam slabs to the sides. It can be heated with 2 liter pop bottles full of hot water. Use eggcrate dividers to keep the rock from sliding around in the transport tank.

Excelent point but your talking about moving from one country to another which you're prob going to have import issues that are keeping you from moving your fish which is a completly different issue to as what you are trying to compare to.

You can get away with moving these fish by doing exactly what your doing, Research several different ideas and go with the one that makes the most sence... if you have the space then use the Rubbermaid idea... if not then I seriously suggest that you find a local person to help out by shipping them there ahead of time... worst case you could contact your LFS in your area to help with teaching you how to ship or do it for you.
