the secret is not to try so hard

My first pair of cons bred at an inch each. I was stunned when they spawned lol.

Convicts, tribbles of the fish world.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of lol.

I don't know much about cons but from what I've heard on this forum, they will breed at any age, with any other SA or CA cichlid almost.

Pet Stores should label them with warnings, "Buying this cichlid and placing it in a tank with anything of the opposite sex will cause your tank to eventually become overstocked with offspring."

I have a female that is around a .5" she just laid her second batch

They ate them and I am glad, because, There are seven other convicts, And I don't want the tention of a protective pair. Its only a ten gallon.

LOL, I kept 13 cons in a 10g for well over a year. There were five pairs. They bred like crazy. I fed the fry to my big tank. A couple survived in there. Now, I've got around 20 cons in a 30g breeding more food for the big tank. My admittedly overstocked convict tanks have been THE most successful tanks out of all the tanks I have. I have NEVER lost a convict to murder or disease (or any other reason) in the 10g or the 30g.

im thinking of breeding convicts for feeders, my question is after they breed and the fry are born, do I really need the parents anymore? breed them , get the babies feed the parents to my other fish, then wait for the fry to grow, feed them to my other fish as they grow and leave a few left over to breed again? Is there any reason to keep the parents around?
Also if i tried to breed them in a ten gallon tank and I put a beta in there would they kill it?
