Ok, this is driving me nuts. So Ill ask on here and see what you guys think.
I have a 100 cube tank. Set up for about a year+

Its a reef w/ fish tank...

Water reading are fine.
Rt now its has 6 bulb T5 lighting (4 months old bulbs) but changing this week to 250 Halide

I keep soft corals, zoas, hammers, finger leather, open brains, frog spawn, candycanes, large kenta tree, mushrooms galore etc.. in this tank. Everything does fine..
Even have 2 gorgonian corals that do very well in the tank..

So my issue is this..
I can NOT keep a everyday toadstool. I have small frags in them but want a large, beautiful one in the tank.
Everytime i put one in, it does great for a few days, then craps out. About a week later, its rotting away..
I know its normal sometimes for them to slump over and even shed. But its not that. They literally rot away...

I have tried 4 so far. No luck..
Toadstools are supose to be easy to keep. I have one in another tank that does really well. But can NOT get one to take and do good in this tank.

Any ideas what it might be..

Ive tried in in different spots in the tank, different flows, etc.. so its not that..
Like I said, water is fine. All reading in check and do 20% changes weekly.
Im using instant ocean (salt) in my saltwater, but as soon as my new RODi system gets here this week, switching to reef crystals.

Any Ideas?

could be some chemical warfare going on in your tank with other soft corals. Try placing it in a spot where it is not downwind of other softies. Soft corals require a good amount of iodine and other trace elements, test you parameters and make sure you are dosing to keep levels elevated.

Ive tried all over the tank. Down current or up current..
Iodine and cal levels are were they need to be.

Thats why I can not figure it out.. But i think I have decided to run a carbon system on the tank. After a few weeks, I may try again.
Maybe it is the toxins and with bringing in a new toadstool, the strees of the move as well as any toxins might just be doing them in.
Why my frag toad stools do fine, I dont know, but I also have noticed that my frags of toadstools do not seem to grow bigger like they should..

Thanks for the info.

then carbon could be a very reasonable option. Try running a phosban reactor with carbon. I have one for sale as we speak ;)

was just looking at reactors online. I have one I made on my 65 gallon tank, made from a RODI canister, so may do that again or just buy one already made..

Ditto - see if carbon clears things up - another option frag tank to get them started

Taking care of that as we speak. Picking this system up tomorrow evening..

that frag tank looks great, I have a huge huge toad stool. The top is the size of a dinner plate. I'm thinking about fragging it cause it's just getting huge or maybe I could sell it for a decent price.

This toadstool has been in my tank for at least 4-5 months or so...doing great. I recently moved him to the bottom of the tank because he would touch the surface of the water.

This coral is very hardy, try putting the next toadstool by it's self...and on the bottom of the tank.. do you accumulate your corals?

Yes I acclimate all my corals. Like I said, I dont have any trouble with any other corals. Even gorgonian's and sea fans(which are sopose to be hard to keep). Its only toadstools. I started running a seperate carbon canister on the tank. Im going to let it run for another week and try one more toadstool. If that doesnt work, Ill just wait till the frag toadstools I have in the tank get large enough to put them were I want one..

I don't think you're the only one with this problem. The lfs I work at has trouble with the larger ones aswell. All our softies and other leathers do fine. All our lps and sps is fine. Even the small toadstools do fine, but after a week or so the larger ones rot away. I'm not sure why.
