I JUST DONT GET IT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
google 'allelopathy' i have had leathers in the same tank some flourish some are not happy i would look at placement

I don't think you're the only one with this problem. The lfs I work at has trouble with the larger ones aswell. All our softies and other leathers do fine. All our lps and sps is fine. Even the small toadstools do fine, but after a week or so the larger ones rot away. I'm not sure why.

Well dont feel so bad knowing someone else has the same problem

Yes I acclimate all my corals. Like I said, I dont have any trouble with any other corals. Even gorgonian's and sea fans(which are sopose to be hard to keep). Its only toadstools. I started running a seperate carbon canister on the tank. Im going to let it run for another week and try one more toadstool. If that doesnt work, Ill just wait till the frag toadstools I have in the tank get large enough to put them were I want one..

Personally I think gorganians are really easy to keep so long as theres plenty of dissolved solids in the water, only suppliment needed is photoplex or the use of seaweed to feed the fish. Great beginner coral - non-phtosynthetic, love the high TDS content of tapwater, and over stocking/feeding. Once the system becomes more SPS friendly the nutrient levels in the water are quite a bit lower and the gorganians either die off to skeleton or melt into a red obnoxious coraline type of crap. My LFS has issues with this aswell, they have them in a LNS (low nutrient system) and most gorganians die off quickly perhaps that's why they are so inexpensive even at larger sizes.

From what I've read about toadstools they need alot of flo to shed their mucus membranes periodocally, also they are more photosynthetic than the other types of shrooms requiring alotta lite. Like the other shrooms best start at the bottom of the tank and gradually move them up.
