Great looking ornate! I just love bichirs....Especially the ornates....mine is pushing 16" right now....
Jen ;)

very nice ornate. looks like you got an acitve one too
that is the only thing holding me back on getting on of those,
every one i have seen at my lfs looks like they do a great 'log impression'.

wow, cool fish! the ornate i just got this past saturday from lfs is about 3.5 inches long and is alot darker-background color and the spots are yellow... mine also does not have the lines on the lower jaw like yours does.... is stockier than the senegalus i have that is the same length

Nice looking Ornate there  . I want a Dehizi but am waiting until I get my 75 set back up.

I can't wait to have my own place and larger tanks so that I can try out a Bichir. I will probably start with P. senegalus, common and simple, yes, but I think they are awesome. Can't wait!

i'm starting to like the ornate bichir!!

by the way, what's an "ornate" i hear it in many fish names...

ornatipinnis is the species name. It is derived from the Latin ornatus meaning 'elaborately decorated' and pinna meaning 'feather' or (in the case of fish) 'fin'. Fish that are called 'ornate' (like the Ornate Bichir or the Ornate Bush Fish) are elaborately decorated or patterned.

I beg your pardom, but i wish to know how much does a bichir cost in your country? Here, a 4 in ornatipinis is $100. An albino senegalensis is $200!
I don't think they are expensive, but here the minimum wage is $150, so it's dificult to get better fishes!
