This conversation just now took place:

her: Dad, why is my Makobe turning dark?
me: Not sure, I'll check (meaning, I will check water, etc. in a few minutes)
her: Can you ask on the forum?
me: (kind of chuckled) No, I will check.
her: Why not ask on the forum?
me: Oh, this is pretty basic stuff. I don't want to ask basic questions on the forum.
her: If it's so basic, why don't you know?
