I know they're rare but are they worth it...

ive seen them a few times around here and they seem to have a different personality than the regular oscars. For the price im sure something would be nicer and safer considering those long fins with other cichlids is just a problem waiting to happen.
 
My Tiger Veil Tail Oscar is awesome. She's got black and gray stripes with no orange (stripes) on her, she's about 6" now and I adore her! They grow the same, beg the same and poo like crazy the same as any Oscar. Get one if you like Oscars and are willing to go the extra mile for a foot long messy fish, but don't get one just because their fins are longer. Price never matters much to me-if it's worth it to you it's worth it, period.
Here's a not-so-great picture of mine a few months ago. What little orange tinge she had here is gone now, except for the very edges of her tail fin.

thanks for all the reply, im really having second thoughts because i keep big cichlids in my tank and am afraid they will nip every fin the oscar has. so i made my mind , i dont think he'll be good in my community tank.

Personally, I adore long fin O's.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
 
I "inherited" a 12" one years ago with a tank I bought. I find the long fins destroy the natural oblong shape of the fish.
 
25.00 for a free to 5.00 fish even at 12"!!!:eek::eek::eek:


Maybe and Just maybe if it were Wild...

I never paid over 5.00 for a long fin!! For regular yes.. But not for a longfin!!
