I am in Britain and have got one. Not had him for very long and he is still a bit shy with the lights on but is getting bolder. They eat anything and everything. The other day I had a problem when a stingray pounced on a cichlid and I thought I would save/move the other one of a simliar size. The only place I could put was in the gulper tank. It was about double the length of the gulper and deep bodied - I thought no way will he eat that. Next morning it was gone as well.
I was gutted to loose both fish and will not add anything other than plecs to the Gulper tank from now on.
I thought I was going to loose the gulper as well because he was so full it was pushing on his swim bladder causing him to float upside down. I turned off the lights thinking I was going to loose him. He made it through the day and was a bit better the next day. After about 4 days I was feeding the plec in the tank some prawn and him swam up and grabbed it ready for more!!!
They are great fish with huge mouths and even bigger appetites.
If you are interested Tim look in PFK this month as Richard Hardwick has done an article about big mouths and it includes the gulper.
