I am absolutely crazy about most Central and South American cichlids, and in the last couple of years I think I had just about every common cichlid under the sun.

Couple of months ago, for whatever reasons, I have decided that keeping smaller fish is better. At which point I picked up bunch of extra 10 gallon setups and converted my 30 and 55 gallon to Tetras, Angels, Discus, Corys, and a couple other misc. small fish.

Oh boy do I regret it! Not only are they absolutely boring and unresponsive I have sold some of my absolutely favorite pets to get these little ****ty Discus. I have sold my female Red Devil which was absolutely the best fish I have ever owned, my male Green Terror, and a Convict pair that I had since day one in this hobby.

I still could not get myself around to going back to Cichlids but after introducing some new Discus to the tank, one of which had fungus, ended up killing half the tank! Medication simply did not do much. I feel like I finally managed to get it under control, will medicate for another couple of days, after which Ill start carbon filtering everything and selling off all the small guys that are left.

Lesson learned.

I am in the market for a male Red Devil and Green Terror!

no offense but that was so stupid

I think small and big fish are great.

Ive changed my obsession in fishkeeping a few times, guppies bettas angels now mbuna, but theres always been one tank with a sa cichlid that is my favorite, one that I consider an actual pet.

I can send you some free convicts....sorry that you gave up the cichlids. I see nothing wrong with branching out, but I would keep my old tanks

I think that every fish nut out there continuously morphs into new things over time whether they want to or not. I'll always be addicted to commons in all sizes and shapes but in the back of my mind, I'm always thinking about going with something I've never kept before be it monster or mini.
