Also, I have only had it for one day, and I just did 50% water change this morning and took it outside while it was warm and let it roam around in a play pen I made for my old guinea pigs.

I am thinking it was sick when I got it, as I have had it for such a short time. When I inspected it at the store I looked at its nostels and noticed to discharge, it wasnt weezing or breathing heavily either, eyes clear, no soft spots on the shell, nothing. It looked like the perfect turtle.

I do not see how it could be my fault as I have only had it for such a short time.

It is part of being a parent. They pay the bill and house their children. They are constantly worried about the expenses and safety. I know when I got started in reptile hobby when I was young, my parents did not want me to use too much wattage and expensive equipment.

So it is quite possible that his mom either only see the UVB bulbs as something too expensive to purchase or completely unnecesssary. She might also be too worried about the fire hazards and or electrical cost as well.

Well be that as it may, your turtle still will need access to UVB light. Or if you live someplace warm you can keep it outdoors. If you are able to keep the turtle outside in the summer, that can help lower the yearly electric bill. I'm still curious about your turtles enclosure and the species it is!

If we know what species it is and its husbandry, we might be able to identify what might be the cause or how to speed up its road to recovery.

yea the peghand look went out of style last summer...dont try to make it come back...:)

I was over reacting a little bit, Its a red ear slider by the way. I did a large water change last night basicly removing all of the water, and changed it with new, checked the filter it was alright. It doesnt smell anymore, and I'm doing another large waterchange later today. I just need to set-up a W/C schedule. I take it outside for two hours a day so it gets a good ammount of UV rays.

I was just over reacting. It is fine now, and no smell. Sorry to get everyone so worried.

Ok, well I'm glad it's not an emergency then. W/C's are important with turtles because they can be very messy animals. I currently change my Musk Turtle's water everyday or atleast every other day. The same goes for my Box Turtle's water tub that they bath in. Just remember: the smaller the tank, the more consentrated the waste is, the more it will smell. Good luck with your slider!

I have a crazy update for you guys! It doesnt smell anymore, I did two water changes today, just to be extra safe, and I took him outside for an hour and let him burrow in the grass. He even ran around a bit! He has a bit of an attitude problem and somtimes hisses a little bit and gapes his mouth.

But anyways, I went to my friends house today around 12:30, my mom calls me at 5:30 when she got home from work and says "The turtles gone" so she looks everywre and calls me back 20 minutes later. Somehow, the turtle got out of its rubbermaid enclosure, down the STAIRS! and into the kitchen and was hiding under the microwave stand! He's alright though, no scratches and he is using is legs alright, still hisses and gapes his mouth even too!

Crazy Turtle!
