I may just convert to the dark side!!!(to saltwater)

heres a hint i used to cure, i got the water from a water change from a 280 reef tank
and put that in my 10g and let that do the hard work the left the nitrates at like 6ppms for acouple of days and then did a 20% water change with clean saltwater.
and i was ready to go from there. works best with good cured liverock and live sand already in though. and you shoulfd deffinantly do a snowflake eel in your near future.
it only took me a year to convert tottally to salt, except my two pearl gouramis and a glass shrimp in a 30g that will become another salty as soon as i can afford it.
 
Sorry guys my dad doesn't think I'm responsible enough for salt (yet!) we won't try salt until late 2010 but yes I'm always gonna try saltwater and the option s there if I ever get bored of fresh water and my two fav salt water fish is japanese dragon moray and peacock mantis shrimp bye, for now anyway and I hope you manage to maintain those ocean Wonders. =)
 
Sorry to hear, I'm a saltwater guy. everyone has some great advice. Yes it is a little more work but very benificial in the long run. I can say there are numerous nights I ponder why in the world I started another yet I just got my forth tank 250gallons up and running for about 3 weeks now. I'm planning on moving in my Red Emperor snapper this evening. Good luck with the FW. I must say that there are many FW guys/gals on here and have some very beautiful tanks, makes me want a bigger FW tank too. lol I love big fish
 
too bad your going... SW isn't too hard... common... "come to the dark side of the force, and you will achive a power greater than any FW Jedi..."
 
i just converted my 15 gallon into a sw mantis tank, i have a standard hang on filter, two small pieces of live rock, a heater, standard lighting ( nothing too specific is needed ) and of course alot of substrate. with inverts it is not neccessary to wait as long to cycle your tank as it is with fish, mantis are very hardy inverts. I waited one week, ive had my mantis about a month now and he is doing pefectly fine and eating twice a week. just make sure if your going to get a 10 gallon converted to pick a smaller species, such as a g. smithii (which i have.)
