New here..
Been following for a while but never posted, anyways.. i bought a 7" silver arowana on impulse. Hes currently in a 55 gal but will be in a new tank shortly after i move.
Will he be ok in a 180gal 5 ft. ht. 6'2 long 2'2 width? I always research my fish before i buy but didnt this time for some odd reason.

180 gallon is too small sorry return the fish. We all mess up. Literally I had 3 foot monsters in a 540 gallon and that was too small.

You'll need something along the lines of 12'x4' footprint. I have a 2' silver in a 500g, and at the rate its growing, even this tank will probably end up being too small. As suggested above, take it back to the shop, they become much harder to trade/ give away once they become bigger. Mine will go into a tropical pond once it becomes too big, I would be seriously stressed if I did not have this option.

180g is not small for your 7" aro, fish doesnt grown over night, you can have the aro until you out grown him and find him a new home. people doesnt keep fish for life, most of the hobbist buy and sell fish 1-3years average.

Its true bigger tank better for fish and make them happy, but every one situation is different, some doesnt have money to get bigger tank, some doesnt have the space to upgrade. Get what you can.

Just my 2cent.

If people tell you, you need a 500g for your arowana and 180g is to small what you going to do? You dont have the space for 500g or you dont have the money?

good point out ECW ECW that aro look stress as hell and Im sure it doesnt grown out from that tank. I dont think silver aro can grown 3ft from 180g, atleast I never seen one. They do grown big, but let be real. How big can silver aro grown in 180g max and how long would it take?

Sticky is right, but i have heard well fed aros grow pretty fast especially with large WC

I still think you should go for it and enjoy it while you can, -if and only if- you realize that at one point, your arowana, however much you love him will have to find a new home. Whether another hobbyist, or you cashing in for a pond.

180g will last for a lil while. It most definitely won't last for life, but as sticky said, not many of us keep fishes for life. We've all lost fish due to poor judgement, knowing it beforehand and doing what needs to be done in due time is IMHO the most important. :)
