No way!!! Not real gars, you could keep one for a few months, but you'd need a 240 g after. Needle fish (not real gars) are good for a 55, but best in a 75.

My needle noses have been my favorite because they get the most oos and ahs from my college friends, and they do great in a 55, i think they get to 14 or more inches so bigger is better, i hope to have a bigger tank before my last one really needs more space

EDIT: also ya as ~ocean says not real gars, thats just what most ignorant chain pet store clerks call them
