I need a DIY lights for my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the "eBay" waterproof LED lights on the hull of an RC boat. They will hold up. I use the boat to push our 5' gas boats back to shore if they stall. The boat sits in the water for hours while we run boats and then I take it to a local pond at night and run it for on hour or more on the weekends! Lights have been on there for 3 summers now. All the LEDs still work.

Which LED tubes? Thats my biggest concern because I do not want algae growth due to the lights.

You know what I might just DIY LED strips from DIY the only thing is anyone have timers on them? Will they be at the last setting or a standard setting when turning back on?

I am pretty sure mine go back to the latest setting.

Even if mine only last 2 years... $18 is better than any other lighting.

I taped and hot glued them to the under side of my canopy. The tap can't handle some of the turns I had them make. Glue worked fine.

Oh okay only issue is now the 10 feet rain gutters to get into my damn vehicle. I might just cut them to 5 feet while I'm in the parking lot and put them in. I know the PVC can be cut on the spot there so thats not an issue. I'm going to buy the LEDs and do this project next week when it gets in.

I'm going to do two 5 feet lights. Might be over kill but might just dim one of them then. You guys think one strip of LED at 5M ( 16 feet) will be enough for two PVC pipes for a 5 foot gutter? I know I have to wind them around so thinking It might work.

ill wrap one around and then cross over without cutting it to the other one.

I am using 2 sets in my 7x2x2. Maybe it would be too bring for some, but you just dim it. If you want to do it in a straight line, then you'd have to do 10'. Either wrap or figure out what else might work in your situation. at 5' you'd just have to figure out what twist rate for the diameter pvc to go all 5'.

For brightness reference, there are 4 rows of white LEDs in the pics above. The SMD 5050 RGB LEDs are slightly brighter. If you watch Joeys' videos on the DIY LED lights he shows you how bright they can get.
