I need a filter recommendation

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm a fan of over filtering (as lots of people are) and I'd say a canister would be good but it doesn't have to be a giant like an FX5. Fluval 305 would be a decent filter for your tank and would allow you to upgrade the tank someday and keep the same filter. I have used them and had great results. I actually still use mine but put both of them on my 55 because of it's stock list.

I loved my Aquaclear 50 on my 29g High. I had a light bio-load though. If I started again on a tank in and around that size, I'd probably get a Aquaclear 70 as a lot of people have said here, just in case you add more fish, or get a bigger tank in the future (and you probably will muwahahahaha...) You can't really over-filter. The only thing I don't like about them is the non-self-priming issue if the power goes out. Other than that, they are great, IMO. Easy to clean, easy to modify filter media, and not as noisy compared to others in the same category.
