I need a fish ID'ed...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually being the pro fisherman I have caught these before. It is not a bluegill. It is Warmouth (Lepomis gulosus)

The warmouth is a species that most people would not recognize. In many parts of the country sunfish of all species are thrown into one general category such as bream, panfish, or perch. Many anglers are unaware of what species of sunfish that have caught, just calling it by one of these generic names.

This fish is very similar in shape and size to the green sunfish. They can reach a length of 12 inches and weigh up to a couple of lbs

If you plan on keeping it it's coldwater so a heater isnt necessary unless u want to breed it... Breeding season is late march early april and around memorial day in may when waters heat up.

1xalpha obviously you arent a pro fisherman if you think its a Warmouth, your completely wrong. Its a Bluegill. Come on man look at the vertical bars, Warmouth do not have any vertical bars.

Are you sure you a pro fisherman because that's no warmouth but just your average bluegill. I don't know what you catching over there but this isn't 100% warmouth but actually 100% bluegill. Look up your fish ID books (field guide to North American freshwater fishes) and you will find out that you are wrong.

LOL - thanks for the info "pro" - not even close

Uh yeah it's a 100% Bluegill. No other Sunfish looks exactly like that. It's a bit more slender than other Bluegills but it's still a Bluegill nonetheless.

I think it should be said that you shouldn't take fish home that you cant ID. This fish has the potential to grow to over 10" long and is very aggressive, not to mention dirty, and a 55g wont hold it for life.

Oh yeah eating is never a problem for them, they're aggressive as hell. But they do get big. How many do you have?

warmouth do have vertical bars bro bro. The also have the pointed mouth and yellow underbelly that this one has so maybe you should check your field guide.

Also lets not be rude its just a fish -.-
