thanks apriliarider i couldnt remember what you said that food was. and my water is up at 84 degrees but i can still turn the heaters i tad more. they really dont start showing full true colors until 10inches? good thing its a bass and thats only about 6 to 8 months away if i keep it eating right haha... hillbilly, thats a really good point about them eating other sick/dieing/weak fish in the wild, i still think i would treat goldfish and such.. would freezing the feeders kill all chance of harful parasites on the fish?

I'm sure it would help, but kill all parasites? No, not at all. You would have to treat the fish with meds to do that. Young pbass may not eat dead anyway. If you have your LFS order you a half box of feeders (500) such as swordtails, mollies. platies, guppies, or danios, they are generally fresh and pretty clean. Pick them up when they come in. If the store doesn't have to handle them, they will usually cut you a deal. It's when they get overcrowded in small LFS tanks on central filter systems, that you see problems with feeders and mass die offs. Just to be clear, goldfish and any other member of the carp family are not recommended as feeders because of the enzime they carry in their bodies. These fish are the most likely of any species to carry parasites anyway. Also, if you can jack the temp. of your tank to 86-88, that would be ideal.
