A lot major car shows, some concerts ban DLSR's if they plan to sell their own prints.

You can even get attachments that allow for macro and extra zoom, filters, etc. They are more or less a cheap DSLR without the super expensive lenses that need to be bought and carried.
I highly recommend the Lumix super zoom.
