Can anyone positively ID this fish for me. Looking for a definite solid ID. Is that even possible? I know what I bought the fish as but I am extremely skeptical. He was not sold as a texas (cyno). thanks everyone!

Possibly a red texas, which I don't consider a flowerhorn. I base this on the underlying orange color. Maybe it's a carpinte with the lighting creating some sort of illusion but I'd go with my first guess.

i agree with hybrid...probably something from a red texas breeding project....it looks a little bit off to be a pure carpintis

i agree with it being a hybrid of some sort, maybe as simple as cyano x carpinte, but more than likely like already stated its probably the product of a failed attempt for a red texas

thanks everyone for your input. the fish was sold as a parrot x escondido. However when I arrived to buy the fish the owner claimed the escondido had jumped out of the tank to it's demise. about a month or 2 later he had more of these fry he was selling. where these fish are coming from and what they are I have no idea but everyone seems to support the theoretical carpinte hybrid. I do like the fish. What specific features elude to it being hybrid? And what features suggest carpinte over cyano?
