I need advice. How do I clean this tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recently aquired 2 55 gallon tanks that were left in a apartment when the owner went to jail. These tanks were allowed to evaporate from full to all the way dry. Just filthy. I took them outdoors and hosed them down with lime away and let it sit. Then rinsed and did it again. No scrubbing because the scrubber will pick up the calcium deposits and scrathc the #$%^ out of the tank. Also dont use the steel wool or green scrubbies as these too will scratch the tank badly. If you want it super clean with minimal scrubbing limeaway is the way to go. Just make sure to rinse like crazy when done. Bolth of the 55 gallon tanks that I got free have had fish in them for around 3 weeks and havent seen any problems.

I would go with a large scraping razor and be sure you get a sturdy one don't cheap out on it. If it breaks when you 're using it you may end up taking an unwanted trip to a hospitial. And soaking will leave you with alot less work.

Its CLEAN!! I scraped the worst of the crud off with a razor then vacuumed it out ... THEN I started dumping HOT water in there & scrubbing with a green scrubby pad which worked perfectly! I actually just got the last of the little things finished tonight & its actually up & running! :headbang2 *dances around the house* I got 13 feeder goldfish to help cycle the tank faster ... to be honest I'd rather kill off a few of them than my oscars.

I'm going to go start a thread with new, clean tank, photos!
