Hey everyone
I've had my gar now for about 3 months or so, he's 6 inches and has been feed freeze dried shrimp...up until a day ago or so I've noticed something no right with him, swimming is off, he's sporatically trying to bite the shrimp and missing-just not right....I want to say it looks as though he may have a small bulge in his throat directly under where his eye lines up-could this be the reason...lack of oxygen perhaps....nothings changed in the tank except for the addition of a small arowana in the tank
HELP ME PLEASE!!!! need input quick cause he seems to be getting worse

post a pic? im not sure what it is but with a pic it would deff be easier. how big was yr gator when you got him?

3 in maybe...pic is gonna be kinda hard right now...the throat area lined up by where his eye is seems to be sort of "full" not sure if that maybe it...if it is, he can be choking?
will freeze dried shrimp eventually moisten to the point where he could swallow it?

does it look something like this?

in my case, the gar just broke part of his jaw. early on he did show similiar symptoms to yours, missing food, distress etc, but after i gave him to a friend(whose tank were not overstocked with hungry large fish) he managed to recover and eat normally.

i have asked phil aka oddball about this once before, he said the fish should recover no problem. just bump temp, i would suggest perhaps lower the water levels, keep the tank dark, lower water movement and remove agressive tankmates, keep the water clean, feed prepared foods and keep a close eye on the fish. let us know how this progresses.
