I purchased my gold tiger dats when they were feeding on live food. They are constantly hiding and show no interest in anything that doesn't move, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

dont feed for like a week , then try feeding , thats what i did to get my p bass off live food if they dont eat it wait another few days and try again

What do you use for your food for the peacocks? instead of live?

I am experienced in pbass and have been able to get them off live food. I was gonna try market shrimp like I did my bass but the problem is my dats hide so much and spook when i get close.

Not to long bought them for someone on here actually lol and i got the tank but the problem is i wanna try and get everything i own off of live food due to deseases and also cost of buying the feeders. I don't want to have to breed mollys to feed them its annoying lol so if so i can buy market shrimp or frozen try some thing new

Method 1:
  1. Chop up frozen market shrimp
  2. Rub the pellet of your choice (I personally use NLS) onto the frozen market shrimp cubes
  3. Refreeze the market shrimp
  4. Feed your datnoids the pellet covered shrimp for weeks, then just put in the pellets
Method 2:
  1. Starve them, IF they are big enough. So if they are 3-4" I would starve
Method 3:
  1. Soak the pellets in garlic liquid or bloodworm juice
I have:
2x indos that eats NLS- used method 1
1x indo that eats hikari cichlid gold- used method 2
2x indos that eats freeze dried shrimp- used method 2
1x indo that eats frozen market shrimp- unconverted

i too am having the same dilemma - i have tried the garlic juice method but to no avail! will try the other methods thanks!

feed live for a bit till they start geting bigger then switch slowly. bloodworms are easy to keep just put them in a small tub like butter or sour cream poke a few holes in the lid and keep them in the fridge, change the water once a day before feeding. you can get like 5 bucks to last you 2 weeks or longer thats how long they lasts me and i have 6 indo 3-4 inch and 6 loaches 2-4 in a 125 right now and are all taking both pallet and worms now

just keep feeding them pellets until they accept it. i am new to dats, but mine took to sinking carnivore pellets after a few days in my tank.

they are NOT going to starve themselves and will eventually accept...just keep trying until they go for it. i have lots of experience with piranhas and it's pretty much the same idea. you just might want to vac your tank more when they don't accept it as to not let the food rot at the bottom.
