OK Everyone, I need help. I have a Cichlid tank, 100g. Last night I did a 25% waterchange, cleaned the rocks a little....typical routine stuff. This morning I came to see all of the fish up at the top, like gasping for air. I tested the water and everything is right on. Concerned.........I went to the LFS to have them test the water (second guessing myself). They said everything was fine and said that everything is good. My concern grew and I did another 25% waterchange at 10AM this morning. Everyone seemed better and behaving normally. Now 4 hours later they are doing it again. What the heck is going on? What am I doing wrong all of a sudden??? I've had that problem before in my 150G but I just had too much CO2 going in. I have no CO2 going in this one, all fake plants, now one MIA......What should I do??????

Please help me, I don't want to lose my beautiful fish....

Are you using airstones? Sounds like there is dead spots in the tank. Is your filter/filters breaking the surface?

I'm using a RENA3 Canister with ceramic stars and rings. I've got the following in the tank;
1 x 4inches
3 x 3 inches
9 x 2 inches
6 x 1 inch
....and 1 10 inch Pleco

*****I have no air stones............I'm not sure what you mean by "is your tank breaking the surface.....can you explain?

Air is not the problem...the fish wouldn't just start gasping in mass right after a water change. More likely something has gone wrong chemically?

-What's you regular WC schedule? Leaving it for a long time between WCs can shift the ph in a bad way...
-Did you declorinate?
-Add any other chemicals?

what tests did you and the LFS do?

did you test ammonia and nitrite? or just nitrate?

usually, if the ammonia or nitrite is high, the fish will gasp for air because ammonia burns their gills and nitrite prevents them from taken in oxgyen.

actual dissolved oxgygen levels are seldom a problem in aquariums..it is usually in excess of what they need to thrive..

-I was fighting a bad Algea bloom about 2 weeks ago it cleared up. During the Algea bloom it was almost 2/week. Regularly is about every 2 weeks.
-I did declorinate
-No other chemicals

Are you using city or well water? I went through a period where I was losing a fish or two after every water change. Started using RO water and never had that problem again.

--Using City Water...........this is my tank at my office!!! Where could I get thr RO water?
