this is about to be the most epic thread ever.

right??

You know in the movies where like a bad guy comes up and hits the protagonist and then its all tense for a second cuz you know the bad guys about to end up being like round house'd to the face?

yeah... probably won't be that exciting - we'll see xD

Ruthless is generally right if starting a new tank with a minimal bio load that you ramp up over time. Water changes aren't needed for the first few weeks while the BB gets established.

In this case though, the ammonia was too high for BB to form because of the heavy bio load. Water changes are required here to bring the ammonia down; both to allow BB to grow, and try to limit potential damage to the fish.

Please educate yourself on things you do not know about before making obscene comments ;)

Ok, this is funny, what did I say that was obscene? Perhaps you might want to look up a definition for the word as you have used it incorrectly.

Your advise would have resulted in a tank full of dead fish, although the lights would have been on and the aerator running.... it would have been a tank full of dead fish. Lights are irrelevant to cycling, and if you have fish in the tank, the ammonia needs to be kept lower than 1ppm for the health of the fish by changing the water. If you don't have fish in the water, the lights are still irrelevant and if the filter is set up properly..so is the aerator. Lowered lights is better for fish that are stressed, in this case the tank is full of stressed fish, keeping the lights off would have been a much better idea.

Please educate myself? Perhaps you might want to look at my profile or look into a few things before you tell me I have no education on the topic at hand. It is a topic I am quite competent in.

No mushroom cloud guys... this individual isn't even worth fussing over. Some people just like to get in the faces of others for no reason beyond "its something to do when bored."
