Hi Everyone.

First off I will start by saying that my current passion are larger SA and CA cichlids so I need a rather larger aquarium.

I plan on moving quite a bit over the next couple of years (short driving distances) so the tank can't be too big that it takes more then 2 average Joe's to move the thing without killing themselves or the tank in the process. I think thanks up to 125 (250ish pounds) will meet this moving need but correct me if I am wrong.

Can I please get some feedback on the differences between 75, 90, 100, 120, and 125? I am not talking about dimensions cause I already have those which I included below.

Tank SizeOutside Dimensions in Inches (L x W x H)Weight Empty and Full (lbs)

75 Gallon48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 21 3/8140850 90 Gallon48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 25 3/81601050 110 X-High48 7/8 x 19 x 30 3/42281320 120 Gallon48 1/2 x 24 1/4 x 25 1/22151400 100 Gallon72 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 19 3/81821150 125 Gallon72 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 23 3/82061400

What are your experiences and opinions?

Is 75 or 90 gallons too small and wont be much better then my current 55 gallons tank?

Would I be better off with the footprint dimensions of the 120 rather then the 125?

Any feedback you might have is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Denis

Which cichlids do you want to keep and how many?

I don't have any of the fish that will be going in this tank yet. I was thinking perhaps a pair of Jags, O's, GT, JD, Texans or something like that.

I would go 180gal. I am not big and 2 of me can lift and carry it. Only a problem when stairs are involved. It is glass to by the way.Otherwise go acrylic tank.Have never used them myself but I hear they are lighter.

If it's just one pair I say a 75 or larger would be appropriate.

If I was keeping one pair of cichlids and knew I was going to be moving alot, I would go with a 75 or 90. My 2 cents....

A GT, Texas or JD pair should be fine in a 75, O's and Jags I'd rather something like a 90 as a minimum. Why not get a custom tank to maximise footprint and restrict hight. Something like 72"x24"x20", me and another guy carried my tank (72"x24"x30"). It felt a bit heavy but we managed fine, but with that 10" of glass cut off the top I imagine it would be much easier and lighter to carry.

Is a 4 foot tank long enough or do i really need a 6 footer?
A six footer is more ideal for the fish, but if you know your going to have to break it down and move multiple times in the near future a 4 footer is a good compromise. Obviously your going to have good filtration.
